dethroned

and uncrowned. thus the title of last years katatonia record which i missed (poor me and this time it really fits, fool me rather).
cause it is a real masterpiece. true beauty and a perfect fit for the band evolving its sound rather far from where it all began. listened to brave murder day yesterday and it is still a classic, even the sound.
back this recent album: i do feel it is a real blowback for fellowmen opeth. they had been flirting with a similar, back-to-the-roots '70ies natural sound and vibe, nevertheless they had never been able to even close on what katatonia is seemingly  capable of with ease. elegant and delicate, these are the words that hit me though the original tracks of dead end kings proved lame to my ears. and yet the same songs with twisted sound and rewritten orchestration draw a drastically new landscape. katatonia is truly at their peak and it is high time to start knowing them if not before. by the way: their live sound - which is without acoustic instruments presented on dethroned&uncrowned of course - is mostly similar to a perfect circle's. big time for the swedes, lycka till!
